Typical Day

8:00 am

Guests meet guides at Powderhorn Rental Shop where equipment is issued and explanation on use given; including a demonstration of the avalanche beacon and how it works. Guests are briefed on the weather conditions and forecast, the snow conditions which may be encountered during the tour, plus what to do in case of emergency.

9:00 am

Ski Check is performed to evaluate guests skiing ability.

9:30 am

Back Tracks tour group enters the backcountry through the Highway to Heaven gate, or other designated tour route.

9:30am - 12:00 pm

The excitement begins with the first few runs in the backcountry. Depending on where the tour began, you could be making first tracks down any number of famous Wasatch backcountry stashes. The guides will point out a few noteworthy peaks and runs, which you may recognize from magazine photos. Don't forget to admire your tracks from the bottom before you head back up for another lap.

12:00-1pm

The group finds a great spot with a view to enjoy our delicious gourmet sandwiches provided by Solitude's St. Bernard's restaurant.

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The second half of the tour features more of the exhilarating terrain found in the first part of the tour. If the snow is good, the tour may continue to do laps in the same terrain as in the morning. Or, perhaps, you will delve deeper into the backcountry, for one of the guide's "secret" shots. Pretty soon you too will be rattling off the names of your favorite powder stash and your own favorite spots.

4:00 pm

Back Tracks tour ends and group returns to the Powderhorn Rental Shop to return equipment. Guides log equipment returned, answer any questions from tour group, share photos and stories of the day, and tie up any loose ends.
