Am I a good enough skier to ski the backcountry?
We can cater to many different ability levels. You don't need to be able to ski the super-steeps like in the movies, but you must be a strong intermediate skier in steep and natural terrain and variable snow conditions. You must also be comfortable skiing trees, traversing, and side-stepping. Please call with any concerns or questions.
Do I need backcountry equipment?
Backtracks will provide you with backcountry touring skis and avalanche equipment. Please see our equipment link for a list of gear to bring on your tour.
What is the terrain like?
The backcountry terrain surrounding Solitude Mountain Resort is a wide range of terrain from mellow powder bowls to steep chutes and ramps with many unmarked hazards. Our terrain options for the day depend on weather conditions, snow stability, group desires, and the group’s ability. With our permit area ranging from the open tree runs of Twin Lakes pass and Silverfork to the steep chutes of Wolverine Cirque, we can find skiing to impress anyone.
Do I have to be in good shape?
With a private guide, you or your group will have their own guide for the day. this means your group can assist in determining the pace, ski terrain and goals. This is a great option if you have concerns about your group’s ability, as we can easily work with your group in this setting.
Should I consider a private guide?
Hiring a private guide guarantees that you or your group will have their own guide for the day. This means your group will solely determine the pace, ski terrain, goals etc… This is a great option if you have concerns about your group’s ability, as we can easily work with your group in this setting.
